I wasn't aware that there was a bus terminus at the station; but I've read on another forum that buses will go into the station forecourt. The traffic signals will be on the Lea Street/Station Hill junction.

From what I can see, at the moment it's an hourly service from Kidderminster bus station to Worcester, via Aggborough, so a convenient place to turn round. All other routes have stops on the main road.

It's not exactly a terminus, but the 303 goes in, turns round, then comes back out the same way.

Bus terminus ? It's called the pavement LOL. Typical press release from council trying to spin. The improvement will probably be a bus shelter. I'll get off my soap box now.

There is a lot more to it than a bus shelter. There will be three bus bays with a continuous canopy, a seperate taxi rank and designated short stay parking area.

West Midlands Railway Kidderminster Station Redevelopment

As many of you will be aware, there is soon to be major redevelopment of the mainline station at Kidderminster. The work will involve the reconfiguration of the existing road and forecourt area as well as demolition and replacement of the existing station building. The project is being managed by SLC Rail and the works themselves undertaken by Buckingham Group contractors. The project is expected to be completed mid-2019. Whilst there may well be some disruption on site, the SVR will benefit from the hiring of the former Northern Belle compound in our car park for site offices in exchange for some improvements to our car park. Elsewhere, the SVR will receive payment for the temporary re-allocation of 14 car parking spaces adjacent to the Carriage Works The work was due to commence immediately after the Autumn Gala but a number of logistical problems with the project has resulted in a revised start date of 14th November 2018. The SVR will be in regular communication with the project team and contractors to ensure that there will be no disruption to SVR operations such as Christmas running, in particular the provision of parking at Kidderminster, whilst the work progresses.

Overview of scheme
The station is to undergo a dramatic redevelopment, including a new glass-fronted station twice the size of the existing building.

Facilities will include a new café shop, toilets and indoor seating and waiting areas in addition to clearly marked waiting and taxi areas being created in front of the station to make it safer for pedestrians.

The station, which has direct trains to the heart of London, Birmingham and Worcester, was used for 2.2 million journeys last year, with passenger numbers predicted to rise 50% within five years.

The scheme also proposes significant improvements to nearby bus stops and a new pedestrian crossing close to the station on Comberton Hill.

"November 2018 construction work starts
Early Autumn 2019 redeveloped station opens"

Let's hope it doesn't overrun, like another project I can think of!

A further extract from the Worcestershire County Council web site [as viewed 24 October 2018] .
https://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/info/20624/kidderminster_station_improvements/1414/kidderminster_station_improvements

24 October 2018
We are running an open day with partners on Tuesday, November 6 ahead of the main works starting on the redevelopment of the station.

Project staff will be on hand at the station to update the public on the plans and answer questions from 7.30am to 6pm.

Kidderminster Station is the second busiest in the county with almost a fifth of all rail travel in the county either starting or stopping here. It is set to undergo a dramatic redevelopment, including construction of a completely new, glass fronted station building. Once complete, inside the station there will be a new café, fully accessible toilets and an indoor seating and waiting area. Outside, the forecourt will be reshaped with a new drop-off and collection zone, relocated taxi rank and new traffic flow arrangements. The aim is to improve pedestrian safety and increase access and exit flow during the busiest times.

Highway works on Comberton Hill have recently taken place and include improved bus shelters and a new pedestrian crossing. These works are set to further improve access to and from the station.

Work on the station is part of the £50million plus the council is spending between 2016 and 2019 on rail improvements that includes the new Worcestershire Parkway and work already completed on Bromsgrove Station last year.

Must be a surprise to some of those London locations.

At least the SVR should negotiate some serious signage/advertising. How about a timetable board displaying SVR services? Hopefully our own drop off zone will not be disadvantaged.

Worcester Foregate Street 2,293,021
Kidderminster 1,619,928
Redditch 1,002,294
Bromsgrove 619,880
Worcester Shrub Hill 618,467

Thought I'd try and find some passenger figures for Worcestershire, best I could do was 2015/16. Probably changed a bit since then with the new Bromsgrove station etc. Any more recent figures?

I do hope the cobbled road surface will be retained. It would be a pity to see it replaced by a normal tarmac surface.

All of the plans can be viewed on the WFDC website including an enhance walking route between the two stations:-

When the new West Midlands Trains franchise was awarded, there was a proposal for another 100 parking spaces at Kidderminster (see the “West Midlands Trains: 10 December 2017 - April 2026” thread for details). I don’t see any mention of additional parking in the planning documents. Not really surprised...

The current project is being run by the County Council with cash obtained from bids for central government money by the Local Enterprise Partnerships. The 100 additional parking spaces is a franchise commitment and will have to be funded and delivered seperatly.

I want to know where they are going to put the extra 100 car parking spaces?
