New Railtour: The Waverley Re-Union
Saturday 5th January 2019
We’re delighted to announce that following the momentous year of 2018, we’re going to start 2019 off in fine style!
Due to the unavailability of The Deltic Preservation Society’s 55009, we will be providing 50007 & 50049 to power Pathfinder Tours’ Waverley Re-Union on Saturday 5th January, from Birmingham (via Carlisle) to Edinburgh and Tweedbank. This very special train is being run to commemorate exactly 50 years to the day since the final passenger trains covered the route – 5th January 1969! This graded and scenic line reopened as far as Tweedbank in 2015. The 50s will work in a pair to the Edinburgh area then work top and tail down the branch. There’s also a late afternoon break in Edinburgh.
This will be the first time that Class 50s have visited the line since it reopened in 2015, but it’s actually not the first time 50s have travelled the Waverley route. In 1968 and handful of D400s covered the route on diverted express trains, including our very own D407!
If you want to join us for this historic occasion, visit the Pathfinder Tours website – tickets are available in all classes.
