Graham's comment about this event prompted me to look it up.

"Working with our partners Birmingham City Council, we’ve made some exciting changes to the second edition of the event, including moving to a new spring date in 2019 and developing a brand new route. We’ll still have 100 miles of fully closed roads along with the epic city centre start and finish [...] We’ll be releasing full details of the new route and date shortly."

Although reports say it was to be raised in the Feb 2018 Council cabinet committee it doesn't feature on the agendas or minutes

I think the idea was to give the riders a change of scenery rather than to appease a few retards who can't read a map.
