The return of the 'Lady in Red'

Happy Christmas everybody! We thought we'd make your Festive Season that little bit more special with our first Autumn Steam Gala announcement...
No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is our first star attraction confirmed to attend our Gala from September 20th - 23rd, and will be appearing in stunning LMS Crimson Lake livery.

Paired with our beautiful rake of LMS carriages, the 'Duchess' will look right at home hauling an authentic train. Having last visited us in 2013, then in British Railways green, No. 6233's 2018 return will be a sight to behold.

'DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND' ROLL OUT DAY: Sunday 9th September:
We are planning to hold a 'roll-out day’ to unveil the Duchess in her LMS Crimson Lake livery here at the West Shed on Sunday 9th September (subject to everything being finished!). More details will follow as and when we are able, but just to let people know that from now until 9th September some parts of the West Shed (specifically the workshop viewing gallery) will be closed to visitors. This is so that the final stages of painting the Duchess' can take place away from public view. As we want the unveiling of the Duchess to be a special occasion, we don't want anybody to see the finished look or publish photographs before our official ‘roll out day’ on 9th September.

We hope you will understand our reasons for doing this – we simply want to make the Duchess’ comeback into LMS Crimson Lake livery a special occasion! Obviously many people have seen the 'Duchess' in Crimson Lake before, following her first return to steam, but that was then and this is now!

This forum thread is an extract based on information shown on an external web site and is not necessarily updated to reflect change. Always refer back to and check the external web site to confirm details are still correct.

Reported in RailAdvent today that 6233 should arrive at the SVR tomorrow - plus where and when to see it as 5Z33.

......Stand clear, fast train approaching platform 1, stand clear, fast train approaching platform 2..... Also watching signal diagrams that showed both trains approaching. That's why I don't go for the sunny spot at the far end of the platform, you only have a few seconds for a decent shot in that position and could end up with no shot at all if you were completely unlucky.

Oh, and thanks, it did come out well.
