Why was I not allowed onto the platform at Kidderminster station today? Last year I was allowed onto the platform at Kidderminster when the santa service was running. I think it’s always been the case for years. Also, I felt I was treated discourteously and dismissively by one of the railway staff. Whom do I write my letter of complaint to? |

Are the public, which don’t buy a ticket to go on the santa train, allowed onto the platforms at Bewdley when the santa trains are running, as I wish to take photos of the trains?

Who shall I address my letter of complaint to? Does the SVR have a complaints manager? |

Whom do I write my letter of complaint to? | There is certainly no justification for discourtesy, but I understand there have been some changes this year to the method of loading the Santa trains at Kidder. The method used at the Pacific Power event was [I understand] different from that used to load Santa trains in the past, and it worked well, so the idea was to use the same method this year for Santa. I don't know the details of what is done, but I can well believe that part of it is to restrict access to the platforms to ticket holders only. If this is the case, perhaps we ought to make this clear in the publicity.
As far as Bewdley is concerned, trains going to Arley don't stop there [apart from the first 2, and one lunchtime one, in each case for staff purposes], so there shouldn't be any need to restrict access here. |

Since I started 5 years ago, the platform at Santa's has always ticket holder only to my knowledge. So it's more that you got lucky last year than things have changed for this year. _________________ Kieren, Kidderminster Station Staff and TTI

Presumably Kidderminster visitors could photograph from the area at the far end of the car park - if so perhaps staff could suggest that as an alternative?
Bewdley was certainly accessible on the first Sunday when I dropped in for a coffee and a warm up after a couple of hours at the Rifle Range. |

It's soured my feelings for the SVR, and next year and the following Christmases I will be going to the GCR at Loughborough. I can pay a small fee for a platform ticket. Also, I've got the sheds and the pathway beside the tracks leading from Loughborough stn down to the sheds. I feel I am wanted at the GCR and not an inconvenience and nuisance which I feel like at SVR Kidderminster with the santa trains or any major event. |

I’ve been to the GCR at Loughborough and the ELR at Bury, and both preserved railways allowed the general public to go onto their main stations for a small fee when a major event is on. I went to ELR at Bury on the 10th December and the booking office clerk said there was no platform ticket, but I could give a small donation, so I gave £5. The booking office clerk gave me a ticket that I could show for inspection on the platform. At both GCR Loughborough and at ELR Bury are crowded as expected with the santa trains.
Perhaps the SVR could be more friendly to non fare paying passengers, let alone a SVR member, to go onto Kidderminster platforms when major events are on. |
