There's a few videos on Facebook and YouTube of trains all lit up with Xmas lights.

I've done a quick calculation based on eBay prices for LED string lights and I reckon a simple top & bottom run of lights along an eight coach train would cost around 300. Pictures, writing and outlining windows and so on would cost a lot more.
Is this something worth considering?

For;
Free publicity, it's bound to get on local and maybe national news.
Attracts passengers

Against;
Cost
Volunteer time
Rigging up a 12v supply
Santa trains are already fully booked
Interior lights on the train would lessen the effect
Paying passengers don't get the best view

A personal view, of course, but that is the single biggest reason against.

Fair enough. Would it really be any worse than the usual Xmas and Halloween decorations at the stations though?

No point, the santas are fully booked, the rly can't run anymore trains, the line is at full capacity. The LED lights would be additional cost and time setting up for no extra financial benefit for the rly.

simples: is you get Coca cola to sponsor it & slap some big piccies of winking Santa on the train, give away free drinks and 1000s will turn up. Just like the lorry does. Film https://www.happiness.coca-cola.com/uk/en/coca-cola/holidays-are-coming-coca-cola-christmas-2015/

Extra cash for the SVR.

Bearing in mind that on the one hand, the SVR's own Santa Specials are already almost sold out, while on the other, there's nothing else running after dark on those dates, I thought the Dartmouth Steam Railway's take on this idea might be of interest.

According to the SVR website there are 6 trains with less than 100 seats remaining and 19 trains showing 'available to book online.( I take that to mean well over 100) There is a Black Friday offer on the first weekend.
