The SVR website is reporting that D821 (vintage 1960) will appear on Saturday 30th "due to problems with 43106". Diesel TBA will appear on the Sunday. Guess we don't have much in the way of 1940s diesels available as cover.

We use mark 1s which are hardly 1940s, and 1450 was in post war livery, 1501 was built in 1949 so the other stuff is hardly 1940s vintage either.

My previous comment aside, I do find it sad that a diesel will be filling in for steam at a 1940s weekend. Is the steam loco situation really that bad?

True, but a 60s Warship just looks more out of place IMHO. Same could be said for a late 50s/early 60s DMU as well. Still an enjoyable event, by the way.

It's probably OK for normal services but tight for galas. There are 8 in ticket, of which I believe only 4 would be expected to work load 8. The gala timetable required 5 steam slots using 6 locos; 43106, 7802, 2857, 34027 and 1450+1501. 7714 was at the Worth Valley Railway gala that weekend so wasn't available even as a limited substitute (813 is also away for a while). The visiting Black 5 will be a welcome addition, steam bans permitting.

43106 appeared to be in light steam today, so fingers crossed.

I expect Saturday will be a bit quieter especially between 14:00 and 18:00 as England are playing a world cup quarter final.
