In 2012 the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust (SVR Charitable Trust) was formed from the SVR Rolling Stock Trust. The remit of the Trust was expanded to encompass the railway infrastructure and buildings in addition to its historic role of caring for the vehicles and locomotives. The Charity has ambitious plans to raise considerable income to financially support the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) to ensure it remains a leading world-class heritage Railway for generations to come.

As you will be aware, the cost of the day-to-day running of the SVR is covered thanks to the Railway’s 1,300 volunteers and a small group of paid staff who help generate the daily income from passenger fares, and the retail and catering outlets. However, to maintain and restore the ageing infrastructure and rolling stock, the Railway needs to raise money now to ensure it can continue to provide children, adults and enthusiasts with an authentic experience of the Golden Age of travel for generations to come.

In early 2012, following a study by experts Comptons, it was decided that the SVR Charitable Trust should be formed, including a professional to set up a dedicated fundraising office and deliver an ambitious but achievable strategy. The Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign was born.

The objectives of the Golden Jubilee Campaign are to:

1. Build a committed group of regular givers, both individuals and companies, that generate at least £500,000 per annum, to be applied to the on-going operating needs of the SVR.

2. Raise £4 million from a Capital campaign to:
..Support ‘SteamWorks’ redevelopment of Bridgnorth.
..Create a Heritage Training Academy.
..Restore 4930 ‘Hagley Hall’ and the Great Western set of carriages.

3. Establish a £10 million Endowment Fund, invested in perpetuity, to generate income for the SVR for restoration projects year on year.

It is envisaged that these objectives will be achieved by the Railway’s Golden Jubilee in 2015.

Our plans are progressing well. The Office is set up, we have a dedicated Fundraising Manager, Shelagh Paterson, with over 20 years’ experience, a Fundraising Development Board has been established to approach individuals for major gifts, we have already successfully applied to Trusts and received grants and we are just about to launch our Regular Giving programme, which we hope you will be able to support.

SVR Patron’s Club

To achieve our objective of raising £500,000 a year to help fund the increasing costs of running the Railway, we need those closest to the SVR to lead from the outset and become regular givers to the SVR Charitable Trust.

The link to the "new website" (http://www.svrtrust.org.uk) actually takes you to the old "Rolling Stock Trust" website.

If the Rolling Stock Trust either no longer exists, or no longer has custodianship of the assets listed, then that old website needs to be taken down.

Searching on Google for the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust takes you to the Rolling Stock trust.

I didn't realise that the new Charitable Trust's aims would be so closely aligned with the share issue/Bridgnorth projects. Does that mean the CT will buy shares to support the Steamworks project?

Why is the Trust include the project for SVR(H)-owned Hagley Hall, and why does it not include its own vehicle 7819 Hinton Manor and the appeal it is running for it?

When will the Links header be changed to "Charitable Trust" instead of Rolling Stock Trust"?

To Patrick - Certain of us are trying to raise funds towards the restoration of Hinton Manor alongside our other duties.
What is really needed is a fund raising gang as Hagley Hall group, 813 Fund, the Stanier Mogul Fund, 82045 fund and Erlestoke Manor Fund all have.
If anyone wishes to volunteer, then I'm sure that the Trust would welcome them with open arms.
