In 2012 the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust (SVR Charitable Trust) was formed from the SVR Rolling Stock Trust. The remit of the Trust was expanded to encompass the railway infrastructure and buildings in addition to its historic role of caring for the vehicles and locomotives. The Charity has ambitious plans to raise considerable income to financially support the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) to ensure it remains a leading world-class heritage Railway for generations to come.
As you will be aware, the cost of the day-to-day running of the SVR is covered thanks to the Railway’s 1,300 volunteers and a small group of paid staff who help generate the daily income from passenger fares, and the retail and catering outlets. However, to maintain and restore the ageing infrastructure and rolling stock, the Railway needs to raise money now to ensure it can continue to provide children, adults and enthusiasts with an authentic experience of the Golden Age of travel for generations to come.
In early 2012, following a study by experts Comptons, it was decided that the SVR Charitable Trust should be formed, including a professional to set up a dedicated fundraising office and deliver an ambitious but achievable strategy. The Golden Jubilee Fundraising Campaign was born.
The objectives of the Golden Jubilee Campaign are to:
1. Build a committed group of regular givers, both individuals and companies, that generate at least £500,000 per annum, to be applied to the on-going operating needs of the SVR.
2. Raise £4 million from a Capital campaign to:
..Support ‘SteamWorks’ redevelopment of Bridgnorth.
..Create a Heritage Training Academy.
..Restore 4930 ‘Hagley Hall’ and the Great Western set of carriages.
3. Establish a £10 million Endowment Fund, invested in perpetuity, to generate income for the SVR for restoration projects year on year.
It is envisaged that these objectives will be achieved by the Railway’s Golden Jubilee in 2015.
Our plans are progressing well. The Office is set up, we have a dedicated Fundraising Manager, Shelagh Paterson, with over 20 years’ experience, a Fundraising Development Board has been established to approach individuals for major gifts, we have already successfully applied to Trusts and received grants and we are just about to launch our Regular Giving programme, which we hope you will be able to support.
There is so much more we have done and plan to do, so please visit our newly launched website to find out more and see our regular updates on SVRLive.
We will report back on further developments in your next newsletter but, in the meantime, please come and see us at Kidderminster Station during the Gala and Members & Shareholders weekends to find out more.
Thank You.

SVR Patron’s Club
To achieve our objective of raising £500,000 a year to help fund the increasing costs of running the Railway, we need those closest to the SVR to lead from the outset and become regular givers to the SVR Charitable Trust.
To recognise and thank our kind supporters who are giving a monthly donation to fund the preservation of the Railway, we have established the SVR Patron’s Club. On receipt of your gift we will send you a Member’s lapel pin badge and regular updates on the activities of the SVR Charitable Trust and the SVR.
To highlight and recognise the early commitment from our most valued supporters and enthusiasts, all donors who sign up to a regular gift within the first 12 months will become Founder Members of the SVR Patron’s Club and their exclusive badge will reflect this.
Hugh McQuade is a Founder Member of the SVR Patron’s Club; he is a lifelong supporter of the Railway and one of a growing number of supporters who have committed to making a monthly gift to the Railway.
“Join me and become a Founder Member of the SVR Patron’s Club by giving a monthly donation and be part of ensuring our amazing Heritage Railway continues to provide children, adults and enthusiasts an authentic experience of the Golden Age of travel for generations to come. Your donation and mine will make a real difference. It could help fund the restoration of rolling stock. It could also support the Heritage Training Academy that will allow our older volunteers to pass on the heritage skills they have acquired over the last 50 years to young apprentices in the area. By choosing to give monthly we are helping in two ways. Firstly, to enable the SVR Charitable Trust to receive a regular flow of funds so they can plan how to support the Railway. Secondly, it saves on administration costs, which means more of our gift goes directly to preserving this world-class Heritage Railway. Wear your Founder Member pin badge with pride; our generosity is helping to preserve the Railway.Thank you”Hugh
Donations are a vital source of income for the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust – all gifts, both large and small, are gratefully received. Thank you for considering making a regular gift to the Severn Valley Railway
For information about the plans of the SVR Charitable Trust and ways you can support us, please call Shelagh Paterson on 01299 406802.

The link to the "new website" (http://www.svrtrust.org.uk) actually takes you to the old "Rolling Stock Trust" website.
If the Rolling Stock Trust either no longer exists, or no longer has custodianship of the assets listed, then that old website needs to be taken down.
Searching on Google for the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust takes you to the Rolling Stock trust. |

Thanks tigger. New website looks good.
I didn't realise that the new Charitable Trust's aims would be so closely aligned with the share issue/Bridgnorth projects. Does that mean the CT will buy shares to support the Steamworks project?

I stand to be corrected but believe charities cannot buy shares, though they can hold shares donated to them.

Why is the Trust include the project for SVR(H)-owned Hagley Hall, and why does it not include its own vehicle 7819 Hinton Manor and the appeal it is running for it?

When will the Links header be changed to "Charitable Trust" instead of Rolling Stock Trust"?
To Patrick - Certain of us are trying to raise funds towards the restoration of Hinton Manor alongside our other duties.
What is really needed is a fund raising gang as Hagley Hall group, 813 Fund, the Stanier Mogul Fund, 82045 fund and Erlestoke Manor Fund all have.
If anyone wishes to volunteer, then I'm sure that the Trust would welcome them with open arms.

I am in contact with the fundraising manager, Shelagh Paterson, and will get answers to all your queries, if you continue to ask them _________________ On twitter at @svrbridgnorth

Or all the above questions were asked after 6pm on the Friday of the Spring Steam Gala (not even 24 hours ago!) - but perhaps having volunteers working on the railway during our largest event so far this year is not the way to go! |

I'm not quite sure of the meaning of your reply above, having spent most of this morning at Bewdley on business as treasurer of 2857 Society.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is a "dig"
