50049 actually had it's traction motor change completed today.
The decision to cancel is principally about risk avoidance rather than 50049 definitely not being ready... _________________ C50A Dogsbody

When were double headed Hoovers last on the mainline? As I found a photo taken by my Grandad sometime in the early 90s of two 50s, one in that GWR-esque livery, at Cockwood harbour. We stopped on the way to Dawlish as there were lots of photographers about. _________________ doing nothing in particular but doing it very well.

Ah. So not as long ago as the pair we captured. Any gen out there as to what tour we might have actually copped?
*EDIT* The all-knowing Wikipedia suggests that we actually caught the very last BR-operated service utilising 50s, 50007 and 50050 double-heading Padd-Penzance and back. Lucky us! _________________ doing nothing in particular but doing it very well.

A link from @bhstn is to Phil Trotter who commented:
Quote: | The Fifty Fund moved its locomotives and parts from Cardiff Canton to the Severn Valley Railway on 29th March 2012. Here, 50049 'Defiance' leads 6F50, 0908 Cardiff Canton to Kidderminster through Cardiff Central. In the consist were 37308, 50135 (50035) 'Ark Royal', 50044 'Exeter' and three parts vans. |
I take it the parts are going into the stores at Kidder that wre being erected last(?) year? Does it imply that the 50s will no longer be going to Cardiff for work to be done?
Thanks

It was picking up tubes from 7802's boiler for scrapping. Only took about half of them though. Would have needed to double head to take them all..... |

I did read somewhere that track alterations were being made at Cardiff & they wanted to clear as much stock as possible during that time, there was no implication the 50s would not return.
Others will know more than me, but it partly answers the question, maybe? _________________ Sharpo (happily avoiding fakebook & twitter)
